Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and it’s time for a bit of preparation! It might seem that once you have a baby, Valentine’s Day might be more difficult to spend with your partner. But why exclude your baby on this special day of love when you can include your little one in it for a bit of extra joy? Just because you are a mum or dad now doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate Valentine’s Day anymore and your baby will love being a part of the festivities. Below are 5 ways to get your child(ren) involved on Valentine’s Day.
1) Make Valentines Day Cards Together
This is one of the more obvious ideas, but it is also one of the simplest ways to get your child(ren) involved with Valentine’s Day. Have them make cards not only for mum and dad, but also family and friends that they are close to. This is a great way to teach them about love and affection and how to show it in a meaningful way. Not only that, but card making encourages their creativity and imagination.
2) Plan a Movie Night
You can have a special Valentine’s Day movie night with your partner and little one(s)! Serve up special chocolates for the occasion and choose a (child friendly) movie that the whole family will enjoy. This is a nice way to make your children feel like part of the holiday and after they have been put to bed, you and your partner can continue the night with more movies and a glass of wine.
3) Make a Special Breakfast For Mum or Dad
Valentine’s Day is the day of love, but it is also a day of celebrating love and all the different forms it comes in. Use this day to help cook a special breakfast with your child(ren) for mum or dad! A stack of pancakes or even just scrambled eggs on toast would be a lovely way to for your child(ren) to show appreciation for their parents. As this year’s Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday, any working parent would probably love to wake up to the sight of a cooked breakfast before they go into the office.
4) Dress Up Your Baby For The Day
Another way to celebrate Valentine’s Day is to dress your baby up in an appropriate festive garment. There are lots of Valentine’s-themed onsies on sale, or merely pick a red and pink outfit adorned with hearts. The possibilities are endless and this is a lovely way to mark the holiday and also get yourself in the loving Valentine’s mood.
5) Decorate the House Together
One way to involve your child(ren) with Valentine’s Day and also prepare the house for the holiday is to decorate your house with your child(ren) – two birds, one stone! Get your child(ren) to make simple streamers and cut out paper hearts to put around the house. It’s a way to spend time with your children and you’ll be left with a decorated house for a date with your partner after you’ve put the kids to bed.
