Here we go, it’s that time of the month where we look at your choices as the most popular baby names of the previous month, and this time we look at January. The first month of 2013, and there are some interesting changes and trends that have been developing since 2012. These posts will help you see how these trends develop across 2013.
So without any more talk, here are the top 10 most popular names on BabyNames.co.uk in January, we have a re-entry from October hit the top of our charts, and some more boys names enter the top 10. Our ratings are out of five, and here is the chart:
Emma has made it’s way to the top of our charts, it fell out of the top ten in November but has made a huge recovery this month to hit the to spot. There have been six new entries into the charts, including five girls names, Jane being the highest of those new entries for girls. Jacob is the newest boys name to enter the charts – whilst Harry remains, and climbs a place to number three!
Freya fell from the top of our charts to number six, and the reemergence of all these girls names in the top ten show us that you still love a good girls name, and boys aren’t so popular!
That being said, at BabyNames.co.uk we love to keep track of your favourite names too. These are the names you add to your name lists, so they’re likely to be the baby names that you have actually chosen! January saw the return of four old favourites, but also a surprising new entry.
We saw four re-entries into the chart, three of which were boys, namely Isaac, Dylan and Alfie (a former number one name), and a girls name, Amelia. We also saw Noah claim top spot for the very first time after it has been in the top ten for 3 of the last 4 months. Oscar also rose to it’s highest position in the chart to date. The surprising entry in our chart this month was Ruby, a top ten entrant for the first time, do you like this name?
January was another interesting month for the baby name charts, we saw some really interesting names make the top tens for the first time, including some classics like Jane. What are your thoughts on the charts this month? Do you see any changes that might appear in February? As always, you can comment in the box below, let us know your thoughts! See you next month.
