Here is our first look at your choices of baby names in 2014, with our look back at January. It is always great to see if there are any trends emerging, and undoubtedly 2013 was different to 2012 – so what does January reveal to us about 2014? Perhaps that 2013’s trend is sticking around.
We’ll start off with looking at the names you rated highest in the last month, and we saw 4 new entries! As normal our ratings are out of 5.
The names you rated highly this month seem to show a continuing trend from 2013 – namely that you love the classics. William re-entered the chart for the after an absence since June 2013, and hit top spot for the first time ever. It is a traditionally popular name, but one that doesn’t feature often in our top ten. Do you like William? Grace managed to keep hold of second spot, which is a real rarity, but could be because Zara Phillips chose to name her daughter Mia Grace.
We also saw four new names enter the top ten. Zoe, Eva, Marina and Isaac all entered the chart for the first time ever, and whilst they aren’t necessarily your traditional names they are certainly ones which we’d class as ‘classic’ – but with a slightly unique twist. You’re not likely to meet too many Isaac’s on the playground. Olivia, James, Sophie and Jack all re-entered the chart too, and this just confirms that 2014 is going to continue they classic theme.
We also look at your favourite names; as these are the ones you put in your name lists it is likely that you may have chosen one of them for your baby. So what names entered the chart in January?
As in December we saw a lot of re-entries into the top ten favourite names. It’s understandable as they are names which you love and want to choose for your children! Ethan was the highest re-entry and the first time it has re-appeared since April last year. We also saw Dylan, Ella, Amber, Freya, Isabella and Imogen re-enter, all names which are generally popular with you from month to month.
Interestingly there were no new entries into the favourite name top ten this month. That being said 3 names remained from the chart last month, with Oliver climbing six places to third place. Noah reached the top spot for the sixth time after climbing a few places to reach number one again. It also meant that Oscar remained in the chart, but fell two places.
It looks like 2014 might continue the classic name trend, but perhaps it might have slight unique twist to it? We’ll find out next month when we look at your favourite names from February.
