Emmerdale’s Lucy Pargeter has opened up about her struggles with fertility in an interview on “This Morning .”
Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Ore Oduba, Lucy talked about how she and her fiancé, Rudi Coleano, struggled to get pregnant for eleven years. They are already parents to 11-year-old Lola, but have been trying for years for another child.
The actress, who plays Chas Dingle on the long running soap, discovered she was pregnant in December and recently revealed the sex of her twins – she will be having two girls in mid-April.
Lucy initially kept her IVF treatments a secret from her bosses at “Emmerdale,” worried that they would think she will be leaving in nine months time and affect the show’s storyline. She left the show for her maternity leave earlier this week, but promised that she’ll only be gone from the show temporarily.
She also talked about the frustrations with trying to get pregnant. Her doctors did not know why she and Rudi were not conceiving as there was nothing wrong with either of them. They attempted their first round of IVF in 2015, then another round last year.
“Getting pregnant can be harder when you get older,’ she said. ‘There’s a massive chunk of education that needs to be given. I want to do something to raise fertility awareness for older woman because I really think it should be talked about,” Lucy said.
Lucy also talked a bit about her birth plans: “We’ve talked about a C-section and a natural birth. With twins, you often have one naturally and one can end up being a C-section. The recovery time with a C-section is difficult afterwards, but a natural birth can be horrendous, too, so I’ll see how it goes,” she said.
