Mazie

Mazie is a modern variation of Maisie. Due to popularity of the name there are many variations of appearing recently, and all are relatively contemporary. Before it became a name in its own right, Maisie was a pet form of Margaret, and so it can be taken to have the same meaning. Margaret is from the Latin ‘margarita’ which means ‘pearl’. Ancient Persians thought that pearls were formed when oysters came to the water’s surface to look at the moon, and a drop of dew formed in their shells which was turned to pearl by the moons beams. This romantic story has given the meaning ‘Lights Creation’ to the names.
