Phoebe Buffay

Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) has an unconventional background – her mother was a drug dealer who committed suicide and her step-father went to prison, forcing her to live on the streets when she was thirteen. She has held a variety of jobs, but eventually becomes a full-time masseuse. She is a guitar player who often makes up strange songs, which she sings at the coffee house all six friends frequent, Central Perk. She was introduced to the group when she moved in with Monica after answering her roommate ad. Phoebe is the Latin form of the name of a Greek deity, linked to the goddess of the moon and of hunting Artemis.
