The year is slowly ticking to the half way point, and there is no doubt that there are already certain trends emerging amongst your favourite baby names. We thought it would be a great time to have a look at exactly what names you are choosing in 2014. You might be surprised by some of the names which feature in the top 40s for the boys and girls, and there are also some names which regularly hit the top of the charts. It will be really interesting to see what the charts look like at the end of the year.
All the Girls
There are perennial baby names which will always be near the top of the chart, and 2014 shows us that there is little difference to 2013 in that respect. Ava, Isla, Grace and Jessica are all featured in the top 40, with names such as Charlotte, Chloe and Holly also in the chart.
We have also seen some other unique names hit the chart which you might be surprised by. Aurora, Luna, Jude and Willow are all in the top 40 so far in 2014, and it will be interesting to see what happens to these names come the end of the year. ‘Grandparent’ names are still popular, and Elsa a character from the film ‘Frozen’ has also hit the top 40.
Boys are Back in Town
Again we see your annual favourites hitting the top of the charts, and we doubt they’ll ever leave. Oscar, Joshua, Alexander and Arthur are all in the top 40 so far in 2014. We also saw George enter the chart, despite falling in popularity after Prince George was named last year.
It seems that names from a bygone era also populate the boys top 40. Names such as Edward, Nathaniel, Isaac and Elijah have entered into the top 40 in 2014 and look set to stay. We’ve also seen Dexter become popular, perhaps due to the TV show.
Check out the charts below to see if your baby names have reached the top 40 in 2013 so far.
