The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency has revealed the top baby boy and baby girls names today, with Emily and James topping the lists.
Emily has been the most popular baby name in Northern Ireland for four years running and this is the second year that James has been number one, although it has been in the top five since 1997.
The list shows that the top ten names for both boys and girls are very safe, all of them traditional ones that have always stood the test of time. Some of these names are also found in the Office of National Statistics list for England and Wales.
Ezra made the biggest improvement, climbing to 88th from 126th last year. Alfie and Jacob are new entries into the top ten, replacing last year’s Jake and Thomas.
As for girl names, Elsie jumped from 155 last year to 59, putting it in the top ten for the first time. Lily and Sophia have knocked off last year’s Aoife and Lucy.
For a peek into the more uncommon names that parents have chose, there were Colby, Hendrix, Kiefer, Prince and Woody for boys and Cinderella, Dallas, Gigi, Melania and Scout for girls.
